01Medical disclaimer

⚠️

Sleep Calculator provides general information about sleep. It is not medical advice, diagnosis or treatment.

Our tools and articles are designed to help you understand sleep cycles and build better sleep habits. They can't take your personal health into account. Always ask your doctor or another qualified health professional if you have questions about a medical condition, medication or sleep disorder. Never ignore professional medical advice or delay getting it because of something you read on this website.

02In an emergency

If you think you may have a medical emergency, contact your local emergency number or go to the nearest emergency department straight away.

03How accurate are our calculators?

Our calculators are based on averages: a typical sleep cycle lasts about 90 minutes, and most people take around 10–20 minutes to fall asleep. Real sleep is less predictable. Cycle length can change with age, stress, caffeine, alcohol, medication, illness and how much sleep you've had recently.

That's why you can adjust the cycle length and fall-asleep time in the calculator settings. Use the results as a helpful starting point, then pay attention to how you actually feel.

04When to talk to a doctor

Consider speaking with a doctor or sleep specialist if you:

  • have trouble falling or staying asleep on most nights for several weeks
  • snore loudly, gasp or stop breathing during sleep
  • feel very sleepy during the day even after a full night in bed
  • fall asleep at unsafe times, such as while driving
  • have unusual movements or behaviors during sleep
